Artist Statement

In my Digital Portfolio, you will find many things. Below this blog, you’ll see the work I’ve done. In my portfolio, you’ll find my favorite picture, my links, my blog archive, and my blogs. My blogs includes a picture and writings about it. My portfolio has all of my projects I have done in class.

I think my portfolio is really nice. I am organized with all my work. Everything is in order. Overall my portfolio is looking nice so far. It has everything I needed. I have my favorite picture on the top left corner. I have links to some of my favorite photographers in class. I learned many things during this semester. I learned about the Compositional Tricks. There are 5 Compositional Tricks. The Compositional Tricks that I learned are Rule of Thirds, Leading Lines, Macro, Extreme Angles, and Cropping. I learned about Photoshop and what things you can do to make the photographs more vivid. I also learned how to write a critique.

I think I did well on my Social Issue. I like my picture that I took. It was one of the best works I did so far. It took me along time to think of a statement, but I figured out one. The project that I struggled the most was the Haunted Chavez. I didn’t know what to do. It wasn’t my best work, but I tried. I had a little problem remembering the Photoshop terms. I kept forgetting.

If I keep working on my Photoshop skills, I might be better at it. I’m not fully attached to the Photoshop equipments. I have a bad memory. I also need to work on my writing. I’m not a good writer either. I’m working on my writing right now. I’ll practice on what I’m having problems in, so in the future I’ll know how to do things better than before. Since the beginning of the year, we learned about a lot of things. I think I approved on my ideas. I learned how to think of something no one else was thinking. I approved on knowing how to write a good artist critique.

This year I learned a lot. I know how to take better pictures using the Compositional Tricks. I never knew photography can be this hard. I learned that it’s ok to be yourself around others because taking pictures is about expressing yourself. It’s ok to be open with your classmates. This semester has been fun for me. I also made new friends, while learning about Digital Photography. I know I wasn’t the best at the projects, but to me at least I tried and did something. No one’s perfect.

Lyrics

The lyrics I chose for this project are Turn Around by Samantha Jade.
"Is it me, or did we agree to love, Somewhere I don't feel we got enough. It's you, but what about me?It seems like your living life without meEverything seems to have your time butMy space in your heart is closing upAnd the place where your pictures hanging, Is the only time that you're with me.Don't leave me here out all alone, oh no.I'm still right here, where'd you go?Look around, don't you feel something missing?I'm the one you promised you would love, But you gotta act so far away. While I'm holding on please turn around.I see you but I don't feel you, Can't get your attention to save our love.Look back and see me now.Don't let me down, Please turn around.I think I've must have gave too muchCause I felt the road was getting rough.Suddenly I felt lonely out hereI looked beside me to find you not there.Said you would love and protect me, All I have is the words you left me.Here I stand with the plans in my head, It's getting me the love that you said.Don't leave me all alone, no no no noI'm still right here... Where'd you go?Look around, don't you feel something missing?I'm the one you promised you would love, But you gotta act so far away. While I'm holding on please turn around.I see you but I don't feel you, Can't get your attention to to save our love.Look back and see me now.Don't let me down, Please turn around. You wanna see the tears I cry on my pillow, That doesn't compare what your doing to my soul. You don't even know I'm in need of love.Calling you love but you don't seem to her it, And I'm losing you now. Please just look around.Look around, don't you feel something missing?I'm the one you promised you would love, But you gotta act so far away. While I'm holding on please turn around.I see you but I don't feel you, Can't get your attention to to save our love.Look back and see me nowDon't let me down, Please turn around."
I chose these lyrics because this is how I feel when someone leaves me, and I love him a lot. To me these lyrics are about when a girl wants a guy to look back and go with her. It's like going back with your ex. I know it's hard for some girls to let go of someone you love very much. This is how I feel sometimes. I learned that it's ok to let go of someone even though it's hard. Life is hard.

Social Issue

This Social Issue effects me in some ways. To me, the picture is about long-distance relationship. I have a problem with this because you don't know if things are going to work out. He/she says they love you, but do you feel the same way? You can't see him/her at the moment. I had to think for along time until I found my answer. My answer is: as long as I keep in touch and we love each other a lot, then everything will be fine. We can meet later on in the future.
I chose this picture because it kind of relates to what my problem is. The I Love You in the back is kind of faded like. So it's like the words are going to be invisible. I chose the statement, Words Are Invisible, because in my mind I don't know if things are gonna work out. Words that he says to me are a blur. I wasn't sure if me and him should stay together.

Haunted Chavez

This project was about making a scary moment in school. This picture that i took takes place in the hallway. My idea was to make a ghost coming from the window. I am hiding behide the wall. There was blood on the wall, that I didn't even notice about. The lady was pointing at me. This project was a little hard for me because I didn't know what to photo shop or put things in place. It took me awhile to come up with this picture. Its not the greatest picture, but I tried. I like the ghost coming from the window. He's my little brother. I like how I made his eyes white. Overall I think this project was based on photo shop. It was to test how much you knew about photo shop. I didn't really use photo shop a whole lot.

Critique: Parkeharrison's "Guardian"

There’s nothing but some logs and grass. He’s trying to balance on 2 tree branches. He has little branches on his arms as his wings. The sky is beige with little shadows in the corner. His face looks focused. He looks like he’s going to fall forward on his face. The picture is black and white. He has a suit on. The 2 branches are leading to his feet and up to him. The foggy sky looks like the storm has came through and left. This is a superior picture because everything is in balanced.

Scary Expressions

When I look at this picture it makes me think about the ghost is following me. It could be watching me. The ghost came out of nowhere. I like the shadows of the ghost. It looks like it came flying down. If this was a real picture and a real ghost, I would be really shocked. I would be really scared. The picture will probably haunt me every time I would look at it.

This picture makes me think of me with a mask on. What I like about this picture is my eyes. It looks real. I like this picture. It reminds me of the fantastic 4 movie for some strange reason. When I look at this picture, almost everything is blue. My nails are blue. The poster behind me is blue, and of course my face is blue. I think I look a little scary. The thing I like the most in this picture are my eyes. Definitely the purple eyes.

When I look at this picture it makes me think of myself as a real zombie. The blood looks realistic. I also like the background. It looks like it has black smoke in the back. The picture was taken in my room. It looks like I took the picture when i was dead. I also like the skin color. Everything looks real. There's blood all over my mouth. Overall I really like this picture. I think I did good on the picture. My eyes looks weird.

The Scream: My Interpretation

He screams because he is scared. He was thinking of a part of his life. It bothered him very much. He wanted to let it all out with The Scream. It was about his personal life. Things were not right. He has went through a lot of things. He wants to be free of all his bad memories. Life is not what it seems.

Creative Me

This project was an opportunity for us to put the tools we have learned to use. We were to take one of our portraits, and change it creatively using the following: selection tools, layers, adjustment layers, layer styles, blending options, paint brushes and opacity.
I like that in the photo I'm black and white, and I'm looking at all the bright colors in the world. I like the opacity because it kind of blends in with the background. My photoshop experince is going OK so far. I might not remember some of the tools but I'm still learning.

Adjustment Layers

In this exercise we learned about Adjustment layers. Adjustment layers allow you to add adjustments to your image on separate layers instead of directly to the image itself. This comes in handy during long complicated projects. In Photoshop every tool is specifically designed to help improve your photo. However, here we took some artistic liberties and explored adjustments creatively.

Self Portraits

For our Self-Portrait project we were to take three self-portraits. They were all to be in black and white, and they were all to capture a mood of some sort. We were also challenged to be as artistic as possible, and stay as far away from normal, cliche portraits that we see on personal pages etc. as possible. One had to use the rule of thirds as the base for the composition; One had to incorporate leading lines, and one had to be taken from a more extreme angle.

I thought my angle self portrait was my best one because it had a lonely feeling towards it. I think trying to do a different pose might help. Overall I think I did OK. Some of my pictures need more artistic. That is something I need to work on more.

Contact Sheet

I think my contact sheet turned out good. I did good on making all the pictures fit. I could change the fonts around next time. All of my composition tricks turned out really good. The one I like most would be crop, because I think it turned out better when it's cropped. I like using rule of thirds because it's easy to use and it helps balance the picture.

Composition Trick #5: Cropping

Cropping is a trick that photographers do all the time, even if they don't realize it. Every time a photographer chooses to cut something out of his/her frame, before they snap the photo, that is in essence cropping. We also have learned tools on Photoshop that allow us to crop an image after we have taken it. When cropping in Photoshop it is possible to improve our composition or change it completely.

I cropped the sides out. It looked smaller now. I like this one better than the original one because it's cropped and it has my name on it. Cropping can make your picture smaller. Over cropping gives you a border.

Composition Trick #4: Extreme Angles

I took this picture when I was up stairs looking down. I like how he's looking down at the shadow. If he turned his head to the side, I think it will look better. Taking pictures from extreme angles can effect your photograph because it's either you looking down or looking up. I would choose to do this composition trick when trying to capture a high or low aspect of something.

Compostional Trick #3: Macro

Macro zooms in really close on things. Macro and zoom are not the same. Depth of field is how far you see things. Having good depth of field helps focus your picture. When you want to capture a close-up bug you should macro, because it will look more realistic. I like the picture on top more because it's something that you don't notice everyday. Using macro on small things will make the small things seem bigger.

Compositional Trick #2: Leading Lines

Leading Lines could lead us into the picture or into your emphasis. They lead you through the whole picture. Leading lines helps you see what's around the image. In my picture, the leading line goes straight through the picture. It leads from one end to the other. The purpose of this picture was to show the lines that goes through the photograph.

Compositional Trick #1: Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds helps you position your picture other than the center of your photograph. In my picture, the horse is on the low, left corner. As you can see. You can either have it in any corner besides the center. This well help your photograph be more interesting.
