Metering is when it measures the amount of light there is. In the first picture, I metered from my partners face and then back. On the second picture, I metered from the computer screen and back. On the first picture the camera tells us that the picture needs light to see the person's face. When I metered from the computer screen, it didn't add light because the computer already has light. It can also help you in the future if you want to take pictures in a dark lit room.
